The Level 5 qualifications in Management & Leadership are designed for practising middle managers who wish to develop their core management skills and practices. These qualifications focus on the personal development of the individual learner’s management capabilities and competencies. These qualifications are derived from the National Occupational Standards for Management and Leadership and are accredited on the UK national qualifications frameworks. What are the entry requirements? There are no specific entry requirements for these qualifications. However, you are likely to have several years middle management experience. If you are in any doubt about whether this is the right level qualification for you, please contact your approved Centre. Other qualification options are available such as Introductory awards and S/NVQs. Flexible qualification structure The Level 5 qualifications in Management & Leadership offer a highly flexible approach to learning. They allow the freedom and choice to select from the broad range of units available, allowing employers and individuals to tailor the size and elements of the qualifications to suit their specific needs. Units available to study at Level 5 include: Personal development as a manager and leader (Unit code 5001 – credit value 6) You will learn how to manage your own personal development, identify resources required and evaluate its impact on organisational objectives whilst bearing in mind responsibilities relating to Health & Safety. Information based decision making (Unit code 5002 – credit value 7) You will learn how to utilise knowledge management to make informed decisions and develop methods of communicating these decisions to others. Performance management (Unit code 5003 – credit value 9) You will learn about managing your team against set objectives in order to meet organisational objectives and how to support poor performance. Resource management (Unit code 5004 – credit value 7) You will learn the methods, techniques and principles of managing resources to meet organisation objectives and monitoring of their use. Meeting stakeholder and quality needs (Unit code 5005 – credit value 6) You will learn how to determine stakeholder requirements whilst understanding the concept of quality and how this can be improved whilst maintaining stakeholder expectations. Conducting a management project (Unit code 5006 – credit value 10) You will learn research methodologies to enable the writing of a management project, how to make conclusions, recommendations and review the impact of the Project on the work related area. Financial control (Unit code 5007 – credit value 9) You will learn how to develop a budget and use financial information as a control to income and expenditure. Marketing planning (Unit code 5008 – credit value 9) You will learn how to devise and implement a marketing plan taking into account both the organisation’s current position and its targeted positioning. Project development and control (Unit code 5009 – credit value 6) You will develop an understanding of Project development and produce a Project Plan which will identify risks and monitoring techniques to achieve specific targets. Human resource development (Unit code 5010 – credit value 6) You will
learn how to plan to meet the HR requirements of the organisation and
how to identify individual training needs to meet current and future
objectives. Managing recruitment and selection (Unit code 5011 – credit value 7) You will learn how to identify personnel requirements, use objective recruitment and selection methods whilst taking into account current legislation and how to develop an Induction plan for the person appointed. Being a leader (Unit code 5012 – credit value 7) You will learn about ethical and value based approaches to leadership, different styles of leadership and how to motivate your team to achieve objectives. Leadership practice (Unit code 5013 – credit value 7) You will learn about the differences between management and leadership, how leadership principles support organisational values and how to apply leadership strategies to organisational objectives. Award The Level 5 Award in Management & Leadership is a concise qualification which enables you to strengthen and develop your middle management knowledge through focusing on specific management areas which are appropriate to your personal and organisational development. To achieve a Chartered Management Institute Award in Management & Leadership, you need to successfully complete at least one unit with a minimum value of 6 credits. Certificate The Level 5 Certificate in Management & Leadership is a more extensive qualification enabling you to focus on broadening your middle management knowledge and skills whilst still maintaining the flexibility to focus on the specific management areas appropriate to you and your workplace. To achieve a Chartered Management Institute Certificate in Management & Leadership, you need to successfully complete any combination of units to a minimum total of 13 credits. Diploma The Diploma in Management & Leadership is a comprehensive qualification providing you with the key management skills to enable you to operate effectively as a middle manager. It allows you to develop a range of competencies from operational management principles and practices to the development of resource control and use. The Diploma in Management & Leadership is recognised by the Chartered Management Institute as the benchmark qualification for full membership of the Institute and enables you to progress towards Chartered Manager status. To achieve a Chartered Management Institute Diploma in Management and Leadership, you need to complete units 5001, 5002, 5004, 5005, and 5006 plus either 5003 or 5012 and at least three other units to a minimum total of 62 credits. How are these qualifications assessed? Assessment is normally via practical work-based assignments provided by your Approved Centre. This ensures you minimise time away from work and that you undertake work study which is relevant to your own organisation’s context. How long will it take?
